Hair Transplant in Albania

Hair Transplant in Albania

Hair transplantation is cosmetic surgery, not a guaranteed cure for hair loss. This guide explains how to research treatment in Albania, what FUE and DHI terminology can mean, and what to verify before booking. It does not replace diagnosis or advice from a licensed clinician.

Independent listing notice: Albania Medical Tour currently lists five hair-restoration providers whose clinic identity and contact information have been confirmed. Inclusion is not an endorsement or a guarantee of outcome. Patients must verify the named clinician, professional registration, surgical roles and personalised treatment plan before booking.

What a hair transplant does

A hair transplant moves follicles from an area with stronger growth, usually the back or sides of the scalp, into a thinning or bald area. It may be considered for some people with permanent pattern hair loss. Patchy or unexplained hair loss needs diagnosis first because surgery may not be appropriate.

Who may be suitable

A proper consultation should establish the cause and stability of hair loss, scalp health, medical history, medication use, donor-hair supply and expectations. A clinician may examine the scalp and sometimes recommend blood tests or a biopsy. A fuller appearance may be realistic, while restoring the density of a naturally full head may not be.

FUE and DHI terminology

Follicular unit extraction (FUE)

With FUE, follicular units are harvested individually, commonly from a shaved donor area, and placed into prepared recipient sites. It usually leaves many small dot-like scars rather than one linear donor scar.

“DHI”

DHI is often used commercially to describe implantation with a pen-like device or a clinic-specific workflow. The label alone does not establish who performs the surgery, how grafts are harvested, how recipient sites are created or whether the method is suitable. Ask the clinic to describe every step in plain language and name the licensed professional responsible for it.

What happens on the procedure day

Hair transplantation is commonly performed under local anaesthesia, sometimes with sedation. Sessions often take several hours and larger cases may require another day. The plan should state the estimated graft number, donor area, hairline design, harvesting method and who will perform each surgical step.

Recovery and growth timeline

  • First two weeks: grafts need careful protection. Swelling, tenderness, scabbing and a tight feeling can occur. Follow the clinic’s washing, sleeping and medication instructions.
  • Following weeks: transplanted hairs may shed. This can be expected, but unexpected pain, spreading redness, discharge, fever or other concerning symptoms require prompt medical advice.
  • Around four months: early growth may begin for some patients.
  • Ten to eighteen months: final maturation can take this long. Timing and density vary, and further hair loss can continue outside the transplanted area.

Risks and limitations

Possible complications include bleeding, infection, reaction to anaesthesia, visible scarring, swelling, altered sensation, folliculitis, poor graft survival, unnatural hairline or density, temporary shedding and continuing thinning. Revision treatment may be needed. Results depend on diagnosis, donor supply, surgical planning, technique, aftercare and individual healing.

Planning treatment in Albania

Before paying a deposit, obtain a written treatment plan and an itemised quotation. Confirm what happens if the graft estimate changes, what medicines and reviews are included, how complications are handled, and who provides follow-up after you return home. Obtain copies of clinical notes, procedure details, prescriptions and emergency contacts.

Ask the treating clinician when you are fit to fly and when you may resume exercise, swimming, alcohol use, sun exposure, hats and normal hair care. Travel timing should be personalised rather than based on a generic package schedule.

How to verify a surgeon and clinic

  • Confirm the clinic’s legal name, physical address and healthcare licence with the relevant authority.
  • Confirm the surgeon’s full name, medical registration, training and experience in hair-restoration surgery.
  • Ask who designs the hairline, administers anaesthesia, harvests grafts and creates recipient sites.
  • Do not accept phrases such as “risk free”, “scar free”, guaranteed density or guaranteed graft survival.
  • Request a clear complication, revision, cancellation and refund policy before paying.
  • Use before-and-after photographs only when the clinic confirms they show its own patients and has consent to use them.

Questions to ask at consultation

  1. What is the diagnosis and why is surgery appropriate now?
  2. What result is realistic with my donor supply and future hair-loss pattern?
  3. What exactly do FUE or DHI mean in your clinic?
  4. Who performs each surgical step, and what are their credentials?
  5. How many grafts are proposed, and how was that number calculated?
  6. What are the risks and alternatives for my case?
  7. What aftercare and remote follow-up are included?
  8. Who will treat a complication after I return home?
